Tips for Surviving Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights #HHN25

Jack the Clown

If you are obsessed with Halloween like I am then you must attend Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights. I’ve loved Halloween since I was a kid so when I found out about this event a few years ago, it definitely went on my bucket list. This year, when I was given the opportunity to attend the 25th Anniversary of Halloween Horror Nights I nearly fell out of my chair. There are very few things that make me scream in joy and this was one of those things.

For this tour Universal Studios gave us VIP access and a behind the scene view of how Halloween Horror Nights is put together.  We got a chance to learn about what it takes to put on a show of this magnitude and what all went in to preparing for the 25th Anniversary. This year Halloween Horror Nights is back and bigger than ever with over 9 Haunted Houses, 5 scare zones and 2 shows. I was so excited that you would’ve thought I was a kid waking up on Christmas morning; only my true Halloween Lovers would understand.

After a brief history and overview, it was time for us to experience the terror for ourself. It was what I had been waiting for since I arrived in Orlando, it was time to face our fears.

Our adventure started in the scare zones, where all types of creatures of the night roamed. There are 5 scare zones in all, each scare zone has its own theme.

The epic 25th year of the nationÕs best Halloween event, Universal OrlandoÕs Halloween Horror Nights, marks the biggest, longest and most intense event in history with nine haunted mazes, five unique scare zones and two thrilling shows. On select nights Sept. 18 through Nov. 1, guests can visit Universal OrlandoÕs theme parks by day and by night, become victims of their own horror film at Halloween Horror Nights 25.

  • The criminally insane inmates of Shadybrook Asylum have escaped and stumbled upon a Halloween Block party in the streets of New York. They quickly decide they’d kill for some costumes of their own.

  • The eeriest icons and most cadaverous characters of the last 25 years of Halloween Horror Nights® have returned. The Caretaker, The Storyteller, The Director, The Usher and more are back to relive every monstrous memory.

  • Classic fairytale characters get a sinister Scary Tale twist immersed in the wicked world of steam punk.

  • Your darkest fears will take root amidst the perilous paths of Central Park as you face evil fairies, humanoid bats, scarecrows and more horrors.

  • The Carey Drive-In movie theatre has been closed for decades after grisly murders during a double feature. It’s lights, camera, carnage as the theater nicknamed “Die-In” by the locals lives up to its name.

But you better watch out or you just might end up with a knife in your back…

Now lets talk a little bit about the 9 haunted houses, the most haunted houses Halloween Horrors Nights have ever done before. I’ve been to many haunted houses in the past but never have I been to an Halloween event this big. It was one scare after another! If you are not a fan of Halloween, this event will definitely convert you. As I said, there were 9 houses this year, continue reading below to get more info on each house.

From the burnt ashes of Terminus, through the flooded community food pantry basement, and into the darkened churchyard, hordes of walkers surround you as you relive gut-wrenching moments of the most recent season.

05_Freddy vs. Jason

From the cursed Camp Crystal Lake to the nightmarish 1428 Elm Street, awake or asleep, you’ll find yourself caught in the middle of this epic battle — where the winner’s reward is YOU.

Enter “The Further” and travel through all three parts of the Insidious saga. Denizens of the afterlife try to find their way back into the world using the living to guide them. The house isn’t haunted–we are.

This year’s Purge is more brutal than ever. From the moment you step inside the house, dozens of vicious vigilantes will descend upon you as they exercise their right to purge.
02_American Werewolf in London

Step into John Landis’ landmark 1981 horror classic. From the attack on the English moors to the bone-crunching transformation, it’s one of the most popular houses in Halloween Horror Nights® history.

01_Jack Presents 25 years

Relive the most terrifying moments of the past 25 years as Jack releases our catalogue of creatures in one maze. You’ll be attacked by Universal classic monsters, meat-grinding maniacs and the fiends of Horror Nights past.

09_The Walking Dead

You’ve just been selected as a contestant on RUN, a brutal TV show where everyday people are stalked by skilled assassins. Just remember: the more horrifying your death, the higher the ratings.

03_Asylum in Wonderland

Follow the white rabbit through the looking glass and into a murderous 3D Wonderland. Is this world all in Alice’s mind or are the images we see real enough to kill us?

04_Body Collectors

The Body Collectors have returned, descending upon Shadybrook Asylum to collect the human parts they require. Screams echo the hallways as a blizzard rages outside while sharpened blades swirl inside

So here’s my take on Universal Orlando Halloween Horror Nights! I loved every second of it. The time and attention to detail that Universal Orlando put into this event is amazing. Of all the houses my favorites were Freddy vs. Jason, American Werewolf in London (best design), and 25 years of Monster Mayhem. I don’t scare easily but perhaps the haunted house that scared me the most was the Insidious House. The scare zones are fun but watch out for the people with the chainsaws. If you want to make it through all 9 houses get there early! People start lining up before the park even opens. The lines can be long so I suggest purchasing the Express Pass or paying for the VIP tour, it will make your visit much more enjoyable. While you are there don’t forget to stop by Jack the Clown: The Carnage Returns and the Bill & Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventures Show. Also, this is your chance to get on a few rides as well, so give yourself plenty of time to explore. And if you hungry I suggest you stop by Mel’s Die-In, I mean Drive-IN.
