My love for Highlights Magazine is real! Oh, how I remember begging my grandmother to get me a subscription. Each month, I would be waiting for the postman to deliver my favorite magazine. As soon as I saw the word Highlights poking out the stack of mail, I would run to my room and immerse myself into one adventure after the next. Between the stories and the hidden pictures, I was in heaven. My obsession with magazines only progressed as I got older and it all started with my Highlights subscription. Today is National Puzzle Day and Highlights is encouraging parents and grandparents to take the Pledge to Puzzle: a commitment to spend at least 15 minutes doing a puzzle with a child today January 29.
It makes me extremely proud that I can now share this same tradition with the boychild. He just turned 5 and is already reading! I was so happy when I gave the boychild his first Highlights Book. He was equally as obsessed with the puzzle books as I was as a kid. He takes those books with him everywhere. Watching him find the hidden objects takes me back to my own childhood. Putting together puzzles with your child makes for great quality time with your children. I highly encourage you to spend at least 15 minutes with your child putting together a puzzle, any puzzle; not just today but as many days as possible. Not only is it great for bonding with your child but it also encourages a child’s creativity and teaches them how to focus.
Won’t you join me in taking the Pledge to Puzzle???
