Thanksgiving Dinner Ideas: Smoky Potatoes Au Gratin

CB-sponsored-post-white-600

This Thanksgiving, I decided I wanted to make a few non-traditional dishes to go with my Turkey. After going over the idea in my head over and over,  I finally decided I wanted to make some Potatoes Au Gratin. I mean, who doesn’t love a good potato, right! Instead of making my regular Potatoes Au Gratin dish, I wanted to give this dish some extra kick! So, I decided to stop by my local Mariano’s to see how I could take this dish to the next level.

I kept telling myself to stick to the list. I found myself wandering around the whole store wanting everything from the fresh produce to sushi. After, I finally got myself together it was time to the ingredients that I needed to make the Smokey Potatoes Au Gratin Dish.

I originally got this recipe from Big Daddy on the Food Network but I decide to tweak it and make it my own. #shop #MyMarianos #cbias.

To make this dish you will need the following:

  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2  1/2 cups of milk
  • 1/2 Cheddar Cheese (grated)
  • 1/4 White Cheddar (grated)
  • 1/4 American Cheese
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon powder
  • 2 teaspoons of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 3 pounds of baking potatoes
  • 1 stick of butter, melted
  • 2 cups panko bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons smoky
  • 1 cup of bacon bits
  • 3 teaspoons of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of seasoning salt

Making this dish is fairly simple just follow these instructions: Take 1 stick of butter and melt it in a sauce pot, as the butter melts mix in the flour.  Stir until the mixture becomes a paste then add the milk. Stir for about 5 minutes, the mixture will start getting thick. Next turn the heat on low and add all of the cheese. In another bowl peel and thinly slice the potatoes and add them to a casserole dish. Add a dash of salt, garlic powder and seasoning salt  and the 1/2 cup of milk to the potatoes. Now pour your cheese mixture on top of the potatoes and spread it out evenly.  Lastly, in a separate bowl add the other stick of melted butter and the smoky paprika to the panko bread crumbs. Now spread the bread crumbs to the top layer and bake covered up for 50 minutes. After 50 minutes remove the cover and bake for another 20 minutes uncovered.
