Celebrating National Pasta Month with De Cecco

So, apparently October is National Pasta Month and nobody told me! I love, love, love pasta, I think in my past life I was Italian. That’s seriously, how much I love Pasta! So when the good folks over at De Cecco (Italy’s Premium Pasta Company) invited me to lunch at the Field Museum to celebrate their 120th Anniversary, I had to go!IMG_6454

Before attending this event, I’d never heard of De Cecco before, so I was interested in learning more about the brand.  But I was even more interested in tasting the pasta.

I must admit, I’m a bit upset that I’m just now finding out about De Cecco! They offer a ton of products from pasta to olive oil! After mingling with some of the guests, it was time to eat!

The menu was absolutely amazing, my mouth is still watering just thinking about it!

The first course was Greens with Quinoa Salad. The salad was delicious but I was even more surprised at how good the Beet Chips were. I don’t like Beets but these chips were amazing, they tasted more like chips than beets.

When the entrée arrived, I could barely wait to try the different variations of pasta. The pasta tasting included: Spinach Fusilli with Brussels Sprout, Cauliflower and Shiitake, Spaghetti with Herbed Meat Sauce and Penne Rigate with Seafood Nage.

In all honesty, I’ve never tasted pasta as good and high in quality as De Cecco’s was. When I bit into the spaghetti, I immediately noticed the difference in texture when compared to other pasta brands. It was thicker and richer than most pastas I’ve tasted before. I’d never tasted Spinach Fusilli but this pasta was a hit as well, the consistency was perfect. Last but not least the Penne with Nage was amazing! I wish I had some now.

And if all of that wasn’t amazing we were served a Buttermilk Panna Cotta for desert! When I tell you this dish was nothing short of amazing, please believe me! It tasted like vanilla bean/yogurt, it was simply wonderful.

During the wonderful meal we were given an overview of rich De Cecco’s 120 Year history. De Cecco is the third largest pasta maker in the world and carry of 240 different pasta shapes. I was relieved to find out that their pasta retails for less than $3.00 a box, which is a great price for such a high quality product. At the event we were each given samples and recipes to take home to make ourselves. I can’t wait to show you guys what I make.
