Recently, I was invited to the Stand Up For Family Comedy Event here in Chicago but since I was in the hospital ;( my Swa-Rai correspondent Cristal stood in, check out the great time she had below!
I had a blast last Thursday at Lumen-Chicago, hanging with some very funny people. I was invited to a private screening of American Family Insurance’s Stand Up For Family Comedy Special, hosted by Bill Bellamy. Stand Up For Family is a hilarious showcase suitable for all ages, featuring the talented Gary Owens, Dean Edwards, Felipe Esparza and Tony Rock.
The comedy special is doing so well, that it is now on its 3rd volume and is available on DVD now (go here to see the show in its entirety)!
The event was filled with great music, positive energy, delicious hors d’oeuvre and tasty spirits provided by Hennessy. There was also a throwback performance by R&B singer Mya. She rocked the stage, honey and looked very hot in her Cleopatra inspired look. I got a chance to chat with the beautiful & talented Mya to see what she was up to these days. She has been appearing at events nationwide, promoting her new album titled K.I.S.S. [keep it sexy & simple]. I asked her about Dancing With The Stars and what that experience was like for her. Mya said it was very hard, but one of the best experience of her life. Who knew? She made it look way too easy when she was gliding across the floor with her partner Demitry!
The highlight of my night was having a little sidebar, by the coat closet (yep, by the coat closet) with the extremely fine and funny, Bill Bellamy! As much as I wish it is was a personal conversation, it wasn’t (LOL). We talked about his new TV series, Mr. Box Office, which you can catch every weekend this Fall on WCIU, The U. He also has a 1 hour hilariously raunchy & wild stand-up special called, Crazy Sexy Dirty on Showtime. I found out that Bill Bellamy is a busy man! He has a stand up comedy performance, here in Chicago with other great comedians, on October 20th, at the Arie Crown Theater. Mr. Bellamy expressed his love for Chicago and described it as, “a little New York in the middle of the country.” He filmed one of my favorite movies here, which happens to be one of his favorite movies he filmed, Love Jones. He actually looks exactly same, when he starred in that movie 15 years ago, just more refined, which he credits to taking care of himself and being happy.
