This afternoon, I got a chance to go see “Hairspray” the musical at Drury Lane in Oak Brook and it was excellent. I absolutely love musicals and plays so when I was offered the opportunity to go see such the award-winning musical, I couldn’t wait!
I’ve always heard about “Hairspray”, but I’ve never actually seen it before and I must say this musical was awesome! It told the story of Tracy Turnblad a plus-sized teenager who wanted to be on her favorite TV Dance Show, but was shunned because she was a big girl. It also explored segregation during the 60′s in the city of Baltimore. The musical was a must see; if the big bold colors don’t get you believe me the singing will! Between the never-ending laughs and the incredible singing, you find yourself going back into time when races were divided and a girl from Baltimore just wanted to dance with her friends! Hairspray is a must see musical and will be playing at the Drury Lane until June 17, so hurry up and go see it before it leaves Chicago!

One of my favorite movies, I love Hairspray. Love it so much that not only do I have the original version w/Ricki Lake (1988), but I also bought the remake (2007) w/Queen Latifah & John Travolta. Movies like Hairspray sits amongst my other favorites like Grease, Dirty Dancing & Cry Baby. I know that because the movie was good, the musical should be great and very exciting.
I was JUST telling someone how the Hairspray movie with Ricki Lake is one of my favorites. I’m sure the musical is just as good, if not better.
